The rose

After a real long time, here am I-- working in oils again!..I hate my habit of being too thorough and I am trying to break away from it. No , I haven't really succeeded here. But I am trying...and soon I will learn to let myself loose ...!I am not happy with this, but I guess it has been hard work, at least; so I should post it.

  1. A very nice painting. Flowers are a lot of work.

  2. This is very nice! I particularly like the glow under the bottom petal. You captured the ethereal quality very well.

  3. Arti: This is a wonderful piece and I am not sure you would really want to loosen up too much! I have found it a useful exercise to limit the time or the number of brushstrokes as a way of avoiding too much fussing with a painting.

  4. Don't know why you aren't happy with it, it's delicately beautiful.

  5. Don't be so hard on yourself, especially if you are just getting back into oils. I've never used them, but think they would be hard.
    Looks pretty good to me!

And Deb, You are so kind.I love the flow of oils but they are hard to handle! So I end up doing a thing over and over again.

  11. Oh I am too having such a hard time 'letting go'. But sometimes it works not to and this is a lovely example of that. Such intense light!
