sunflower

June has been a lousy month as far as my painting is concerned! Only one post in entire month- that's pathetic, I know! Reasons have been many..most prominent being my health. I had developed a nagging pain in my right arm and when I went to see a doc ( after ignoring it for more than two weeks) he told me I had ' Tennis Elbow'! -Never played a game of tennis in my life, ha ha! May be I bumped my elbow somewhere...(I have a poor balance- keep bumping into things :D ) Well , it was quite painful and the doc advised me to rest the hand as much as I could; not to put strain on wrist or elbow. But it was my right hand, remember? I had to do the housework-cooking and cleaning! So the painting and typing took a backseat in the days to come.
Feeling a bit better today, I spent a good hour posting comments on my friends' blogs and so far I've covered only half on my list! Meanwhile, this sunflower was my attempt at negative painting..posting it as it is, would have to see when I finish it!

  5. I love the sunflower! I don't know the term "negative painting" but I love how the lower leaves and stem are not as vibrant as the yellow petals above. It's very artistic! Gald your elbow is healing. I have a nagging pain in the shoulder from a fall I took a month ago. So I know what you're going through. I guess we heal more slowly as we get older, unfortunately!

  6. Recognized the negative painting techniques in the leaves immediately, Arti. The sunflower too is quite gorgeous and lush. Well done! I do hope and pray that you are feeling better each day and that you don't have to deal with this issue for the long term!

  7. It is coming out beautifully, Arti. Sorry to hear you are having tendinitis of the elbow. I had surgery on both wrists last year and they will never be as good as new. I still have lots of pain and weakness in them, too. I understand everything you are going through. Keeping good thoughts for improvement of your elbow.

  13. To not have the use of your hand is awful Arti! Get it rested and fixed up and you'll be back to the easel in no time. Love this beautiful sunflower - those negative spaces are incredible, it almost seems a shame to put anything in them!

Thank you, Tito..nice to see you here again:)

Katerine, 'negative painting' simply means painting the area around the actual subject to enhance it.(Although i have put some colors in sunflower!)Like I haven't painted the leaves- but the background around each of them...Glad yu liked it!
