Pastels on toned paper
20"x14"
I love this old man's face and would paint him again and again.I have already drawn him in pencil in the past, now its the turn of pastels. In fact I wanted to experiment with some background color.Frankly, I am not too thrilled with the results-it looks rather painterly..is it a good thing ? I don't know.
I ran out of my white pencil towards the end- just a stub left; so it was not much fun finishing his hands.Next time I am sticking with my 'drawing' mode. Not too impressed with the saturated background color.
Enjoy it while the next one is in progress.
My group show opens Friday, 8th March at Fairfields Art Center. Will update the pictures on the day!
Stunning work! You are great with pastels, just like watercolours too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Vinayak. Pastels give me the texture that was missing in watercolor.I am liking it a lot.
DeleteIt looks great Arti! I like the background too. You are really good with pastels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Urmi, glad you like it.Whatever medium I use, people and portraits are the subjects that lean towards, always :)
DeleteYour pastel paintings are absolutely flawless, Arti! I hope you continue using this medium..it makes me happy. LOL You captured a beautiful expression...and I like the background..painterly is definitely good..and of course, I love the realistic hands...LOVE this one.!!
ReplyDeleteFlawless? I don't know yet..but thank you so much for the appreciation and encouragement, Hilda. You are right- the intensity and texture that pastels provide make you happy :)Hope you are also busy...
DeleteUno splendido ritratto con uno sguardo intenso
ReplyDeleteThanks Elvi, pastels are intense pigments.I like them.
DeleteHi Arti. Sorry haven't been around much. You have been busy. Love them all but my fav is Devotee. You certainly captured the soul of that gentleman. Lovely to see you working in different mediums. Take care. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura,I have been busy as you can see.Sometimes, 'discovering' a new medium ( I have had these colors in my drawer for more than 6 months, but I have 'discovered' just now- what I could do with them!)
DeleteThis is definitely great. and the background looks stunning. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Asit. The background is so bold, you will either love it or hate it- no middle ground here! I am glad you chose the former :)
DeleteThe realism not matter the media shows in all your work. the blue is very bright, but it works well.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Tony, I am not able to escape realism, its something that comes naturally to me; irrespective of the medium.I just hope that my realism does not get boring!Keep me posted.
DeleteDespite your own reservations, Arti, I think you are a master of all mediums.
ReplyDeleteStunning work!
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful Arti. I love the way you used purple in it.
