Rich Gold_ Elephant Portrait in Watercolor

Watercolor on paper 12x9
Last night I painted this golden elephant, using my favorite  Quinacridon Gold ( tough to spell.though!) It works beautifully with Cerulean Blue.Just used these two with a hint of Burnt Sienna here and there.

These elephant paintings have been very useful to experiment with various techniques in watercolors.I understand them more now, and I  feel that I am developing a style, which was missing earlier.

On the home front ,the past two weeks have been quite hectic. My son caught chicken pox and is at home for more than 10 days.Tending to him, coupled with some commissions has been quite a task.I still have a few more to go but I manage to sneak in an hour or two in between, to paint what I like to paint. So its like working 24x7..but I am not complaining :) just wish that I did not have this pain in neck ( literally) that gets bad when I work long hours.
Hope the Holiday Season is treating you all well....

  1. Oh dear, tending a sick child is always stressful, isn't it? I'm glad you're still finding plenty of art time. The elephant is gorgeous. Interesting that you talked about how you use your elephants to help you explore new color combinations and techniques. That's a really good idea, to experiment with one area while still in your comfort zone in all other areas. I like that approach!

    1. Sorry for replying so late, katherine. Life has been hectic for last few days.My son is now better and I finished work on a commission.Time to get some coffee and look up what my friends have been up to! ...Its really a good idea to explore various techniques with one subject. Now I am thinking of taking it to next level; elephants in pastels ;)

  7. Arti, I love your color combinations, a subtle version or yellow and blue. I do see how your work has evolved. It's amazing to see. Sometimes I wish I could put one after another in a long row.

I'm glad to hear that your son is better and that you have more time to pursue this vein of your art, those things about which you are passionate.

I read a book the other day, 'The Elegance of the Hedgehog' by Muriel Barbery. Beauty is a strong theme in this book and it reminded me of you when she wrote about 'the camellia on the moss.'

    Take care.
