Childhood

Another portrait, another happy little girl ( I have not chanced upon any boys here... what to do!) Although I am not very happy with this portrait ... she is not this dark! ..it was just the harsh light of noon that was the culprit. May be I should try another portrait of her.Meanwhile you are welcome to find out where did I go wrong!
This is Manu, the five year old daughter of our cousin in Oxford.
Water colors, 12"X 9"

  1. I think she's beautiful! Surely it's just the shadow area that you think is dark? But then the highlights on her shoulder are so beautifully enhanced.

  2. A very expressive painting. I like the shadows over the shoulder.

  3. Haven't had time to follow all the blogs lately, but just took time to check out yours - looks like you are having a wonderful visit. You must paint those boats on the lake in Regents Park - they are gorgeous colors; also the fountain statue. Love your portraits, too.

your portrait looks just fine to me. The shadow work helps to enhance it. Love the expression you have gotten on her face.

  7. Super portrait, you can even see she is squinting a little because of the bright light on her face, it is very well done.
