One thing I don't like about the watercolors is that you can't "repair" a work if things go wrong.
This is a spontaneous portrait (without much sketching) which I did from a black and white reference photo...
I wanted to use less paint but as it happened, I overdid it again and lost my highlights.I had to use my conte (another experiment) sticks to minimize the damage...or may be it did more damage!?
Its here, after much deliberation. An old lady from India :)

I don,t know much about watercolour but to me portrait looks fine. Your work always facinate me and thanks for remiinding me that art is not restricted or limited to any region.
ReplyDeleteCheers
buen trabajo, me gusta el fondo sin acabar que deja todo el protagonismo al retrato
ReplyDeletesaludos
Well that conte crayon did the trick because I think this is another beautiful portrait, Arti. I love the lines in her face, the smile she still wears. You did a beautiful job on the fabric draping as well!
ReplyDeleteI think she's beautiful Arti. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Looks very spontaneous and fresh to me. :)
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Arti.....you are being too harsh on yourself, I think.
ReplyDeleteThis has come out well I think. The cote doesn't look odd or out of place. In fact the brown is quite characteristic of our skin type I think. In particular I like the red mark on the left in the background. Very painterly.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Arti, expression is captured very well, don't see anything wrong, but I am familiar with that feeling..
ReplyDeleteDon't point out your errors. No one else sees them.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually an amazing piece of work, especially considering that you did it from a black & white photo. Getting the values correct is a challenge but you did it!
ReplyDeleteI like the combination of different media here. I think it came out well.
ReplyDeleteHi Arti,
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me a very expressive lady, if only one could catch her toughts!
Thanks a lot, everyone, for your kind comments.I had high expectations of this portrait, hence,I was a bit disappointed at my results. But its alright if so many of you find it good; makes me feel better! :)
ReplyDeletebeautifully done arti! i'm terrified of watercolor, i think this is just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne:)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I missed a lot of your work Arti....They are all amazing! Watercolors is such a difficult medium and you do so well with it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Hilda :)
