Majestic-2

watercolor 10"x14"
Another one in 'Majestic' series.Elephants are fast becoming my favorite subjects- they have so much to offer...I can dabble here and there, experiment with color, create texture- they are indeed very forgiving.
I loved painting this big guy today..it was like meditation. I was lost for two hours, totally immersed in the painting. And I love the results, exactly what I wanted , for once:)

    1. Yes I am going to paint more elephants, turn it into a series.I read many times that one needs to paint a subject multiple times to understand it completely.
I tried cropping it as you said, and it did look better- thank you!

  2. I know that meditative state very well when I'm drawing. I think elephants lend themselves well to that type of experience, too. They seem so all-knowing and steadfastly wise. This one that you painted is exquisite! I like how you can translate your special style to different subjects, Arti.

  5. It is also one of my favourite subjects. But love the way you have amalgamated loose as well as controlled style.

    1. They are exquisite- and as I said, so forgiving! I am trying to develop a 'loosely controlled" style if that is the right word:)

  6. Arti, I find myself wanting a bigger screen so I can examine them more closely. I love your use of color and that you can use painting to meditate. Imagine 'waking up' from a meditation like this and have such an amazing piece before you!

  7. India is one place where elephants habitat, yes? I never see them here unless in a zoo. I know it is the same in the UK. Your elephant pieces are always so beautiful, Arti.

    1. Yes Sherry, they are very common in some parts of India. Not in UK, true!Though personally I don't like the way they are tamed and used for all kind of jobs that humans invent-- they look most beautiful when they are free,in their own habitat.
