Though it has been many weeks now since I came back from my visit to India; I only started painting about couple of weeks ago.Its hard to get back into the mode once you stop for whatever reason. But the good news is, the work is now in full flow! I have painted a few good ones and also sold some.

I am still in love with this rich, deep scarlet by Daniel Smith.In painting this horse I have used this pigment to its full strength, actually went a little further than I had planned.I hope this doesn't come out as too strong...?

Ostrich Day

Used Bockingford 200 lb.for the first time.Heavy paper, so it did not need any stretching.Another plus- I could lift color without much difficulty. I might test it a bit more before declaring it a new favorite; but I liked the texture and strength - it works well with my loose style.Hope you enjoy this sweet little guy!

A loose rendering this time...subject is my all time favorite!Somehow they look even better when they are not alone.I have tried to keep myself from going into too much detail here, thus; retaining the freshness of this piece.

More of Animal Art

Past week has been quite hectic, I have been painting a lot, besides a hoard of other things -hopefully I would find some leisure to go through all my friends' blogs soon.Completed a large Elephant commission, but will post it here only after client's permission.

Two more elephant paintings; just a few from what I have been painting lately.Now I am thinking of taking a break from animal art ( hope so!) and diversify myself to other areas like figure painting or may be even landscapes.Landscapes have been teasing me for a long time.I have made several attempts- I really would like to be able to produce a beautiful landscape someday- but so far they have been ending up in the bin, or lying unfinished.I think I need to work more on that aspect of my art.

Yesterday's painting session was quite productive.I am happy with this painting of a mama bear with her cubs. I have been finding it tough to update everything and visit my friends' blogs lately as I have some other pressing engagements like looking for a new house to buy!Lots of research to do, lots of options to look at...I am not even attending my life drawing sessions this term.I hope you all will bear with me; I will be visiting soon :)Have a great Sunday!

Today's work.Well, apart from the commission Elephant painting that is on my easel for last two days. Today I wanted to paint something for myself, with no pressure.This was a new subject, though a challenge--with fur sticking out of  everywhere from this guy'd round face.It was difficult to define the face without using too much detail and keeping everything soft.A tough one :)

I had neglected to post this one, done sometime in July this year.I don't think I will ever tire of painting zebras..this one is lean and handsome; I have tried cobalt blue dropped in burnt umber with hints of burnt orange.

Got back from my trip to India last Sunday.It was quite hectic; more than I had expected.There was a lot of government/bank work which took up most of our time.In fact I did not even get to visit Rishikesh this time.Mostly we were just running around, trying to catch up with friends between managing the official appointments.Not many photographs were taken, but did get to meet everyone in the family and friends.Hopefully next time will be better, I plan to have a little more time for my family.

Last two days have been spent mostly in cleaning and sleeping, but I got back to work yesterday, painting this horse portrait- first in recent times.I think I will paint more, they are quite beautiful in their own way.Many of my friends breed them - it was time I painted one!

Still feeling like painting more Guinea pigs! This one was a bit different in tone and treatment.I have added some color to the background to bring out the tiny white bodies; though not too much. Looks good..eh?

New Emu Painting; and the Rabbit wins the Race!

 I have found another cute bird- the Emu! He is the second largest bird after the Ostrich; but with a  longer and more tapered beak and darker color- may be more hair on his head, too.....still, he looks so much like an Ostrich, they could be siblings.

I was apprehensive about his color, not sure if I wanted to use black-so good old  purple came to my rescue again.I like him in rich, dark purple with just a hint of blue.

This one is totally wet-on-wet, I used a squirrel mop brush to lay the first wet wash and then used my rigger to drag out the hair.It was fun:)

On the other front my White Rabbit has been doing quite well in attracting art lovers on Art Finder store.He has grabbed spot number 5 in this week's top ten most loved artworks! I would appreciate if you guys find a moment to visit and click on the heart (like) on the artworks that you like.I am new at this site and need to build a base.Thanks!

The Ostrich

This is my first take at this magnificent African bird and I am already loving them.Hope to paint more soon!His whiskers were fun to create, I used a fine rigger to paint all those  facial hair!He looks like a tough guy here- with a stern gaze and a drooping mouth(beak!)though I have tried my best to give him a soft appearance!It would be a challenge to paint the full length bird, but I would do it someday, after I get to know them better. 

I have recently bought a new color - Daniel Smith's Quinacridone Burnt Orange, and I love it! Some people had suggested that its just like burnt sienna but I found it to be much more bright and vivid. Worth a try!

Hare but not Hare

This brown hare seems like he is trying to lose himself in his surroundings I have used some dry brushing and texture on his fur, in contrast with the wet in wet softness of background- but still he has managed to merge!

Elephant Portrait ''Stalwart''

I have been painting small for quite some time and felt that it was time to go big This one is as big as I can go at the moment, but I am quite happy with it.Shipping large watercolors can be a pain as I do not roll them into tubes but prefer to send them flat.It can be done but is extremely expensive. Anyway this "Stalwart" looks quite majestic on large scale, doesn't he? Painted in my usual style on Arches cold pressed paper.

Another one of those cuties.I have been trying to keep them looking soft in spite of some brushwork on the fur.A little green in the background had made him different than his peers!

Gentle Giant- Elephant Painting Sold
