Blue Hare

SOLD
This little one is just an explosion of colors- I didn't even draw him in pencil properly - I know them so well now :) Thought of using blue and yellow instead of browns. He turned out alright, vivacious and cheerful looking - what do you say?
Now I think I will be working on a couple of large pieces- people painting time!
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours just to get this drawing right on paper- a part I hate most.I like to dive in straight with colors, usually. Sometimes these large paintings fail- and it annoys me to have spent that much time on drawing for nothing!

I saw these ladies sitting in a bus shed with their shopping all around them, catching their breath. The picture was quite small as  I had taken it from far away and I see not much detail.Still trying to capture this scene in color.Wish me luck!I do hope I do not abandon this one.

  1. Arti, the explosion of color is phenomenal! I love this bunny! And as far as the drawing goes, it is just phenomenal. Please do not abandon it as it really is wonderful. I'm surprised you don't enjoy the drawing part so much because you really have a gift for drawing.

    1. I do like to draw, Sherry. But I like it doing freehand. For watercolor paintings like this one,I need to use a grid- so that I do not have to rub out too much and ruin the paper before I get everything right.I really hope not to ruin this one :)

  2. The hare is gorgeous! Love the way you have painted him with bright colors. So much more interresting this way. :) And I will keep my fingers crossed for you NOT destroying your new lovely painting with the ladies. I can see in my head a wonderful piece of art, with some details in it but also some very soft painted arias where you let the colors and water float. (Maybe not that way YOU see it in your head ;) I´m very excited to see the result later on!

    1. Oh you have nailed it, Catharina! That is what I have in my head and what I hope to achieve.Lets hope it goes that way.I usually tire of paintings that take too long to complete. This was the reason I posted this sketch here- at least now I owe it to you guys, to complete this one!!!

  3. I love that rabbit, I love it! I think the free expressiveness that you mentioned is what makes him so special! And the drawing of the women... Art I can't wait to see it as one of your paintings! Your work is always a joy.

  6. Hi Arti,
I laughed when I read your comment about all that [sometimes frustrating] drawing time. I feel the same way :) But this drawing of the ladies in the bus shed looks like it will be a great painting!!!!! Looking forward to updates.

    3. Oh, I love your new bunny too, a very curious one. Do you feel like Beatrix Potter, talking to them and letting them tell you stories? I feel as though they must whisper stories to you, at least in your sleep.

  9. Hi Arti,
Yes, my hands were full - TOO full - but all is better now. Maybe we can both paint my aunt??? Feel free to use the photo. I think I have a good plan for the two bums, too :)
