A Happy Day

9x12
I painted this cute donkey after a few days of inactivity. I have spent these days doubting my skills and way of working; as well as my choice of subjects. (is painting animals a lesser form of art?..was my basic question. Do people take you seriously if you paint animals?) Of course nothing good came out of it.At least painting this donkey made me happy!

As for the doubting skill, technique and subject matter - forget it! You are GOOD!!!!!
I am going through that same miserable stage right now - YUCK. Do what you want, how you want, and be happy!

  2. Color me stunned that you'd ever doubt your skills and abilities, Arti. You are an amazing artist, truly. I love this funny donkey!

  3. I have similar doubts with far less success to compare them too.. The decisions to please an audience verses new challenges to test skills, and the time to just have fun… I wonder? Can’t imagine doing anything else☺

  4. Arti-in my humble opinion painting animals could never be a lesser form of art. You do such a lovely job capturing the beauty in each one. The donkey is super. I get such a happy feeling seeing him. Thanks for that gift. Isn't that why we really paint so we can share the joy we find in our subjects. Please keep painting the subjects you love. They speak from the heart. Hugs

  5. How dare you doubt yourself!!! You are a WONDERFUL artist. Paint what you like, what you enjoy - plus you know your animal portraits are selling. Perhaps you should also pursue portraiture - you certainly have that knack. Best of luck whatever you do!

  7. Forget what people tell you about being a 'serious' painter. Paint what draws your eye. Everything can be art. Everything. Your work makes it so or we wouldn't all be entranced by it.
