Pencil Sketch

Sketching is so therapeutic, I can easily get lost in it.Started this sketch at about 11 pm last night intending it to be a quick study. It ended up a detailed sketch instead as I did not want to stop! This is Sid, a Basingstoke man I met in town last week.He was happy to pose for a picture- it was a transport festival and he was leaning on his blue tractor.I am thinking of converting into a painting later with tractor and all!

Pencil drawing

8"x6"
A pencil drawing I did this morning, after a considerably long time.I do not use pencil that much these days but enjoyed doing this little sketch. Had some good quality envelopes lying around so I thought may be I should put them to good use!

From my sketchbook

4x6
For some unknown reason, I woke up early today- almost an hour earlier than I usually do. I drew this as I watched morning news on Telly and sipping my tea.Just paused this frame for about 20 minutes.Refreshing.
Made me realize that I have not done much with my sketchbook lately.Hope you all have a very good morning.

Wrinkled- Pencil Portrait of an Old Man

Pencil on Paper
17"x11" Strathmore Bristol Paper
This is the drawing I have been working on since last week.It took me about 16 hours of work, but I enjoyed every hour! The reference picture was taken about 3 years ago, in my hometown Rishikesh, which is  a spiritual town of India. There are many, many of them, like this old man here, sitting around on the banks of the Ganges river; spending their time in a blissful inertia.

A Beautiful Start_2012

This is one of the 12 sketches that appear in the Desk Calendar 2012 of my sister's company 'MediaGuru'. We did it last year, too; with my 'Faith' series. This year she commissioned me to do a series about children, youth and dreams.I have spent two months on this project and I am happy that its finally out! Waiting for my copy, though...will share it with you once I receive it.
This time these calendars have become something like a collector's item; everyone wants one!
Have a Happy New Year, all of you :)

Autumn- The sketch of mom

This is my mom...the sketch was sitting on my drawing board when I left for my vacation. I can say my hands were itching to complete it - and that's what I did last night! Although the 'finishing up' took more than five hours....I am generally happy with it.What do you think?

In Black & White

I started this sketch because I wanted to draw someone beautiful...but soon realized my mistake of not choosing the 'right' subject! ( She is Alicia Silverstone, but I did not work on the likeness factor very much, here-- so you may not recognise her!) The problem was that her face did not have any shades..no gradients to work upon - so it got a little boring and I decided to speed up things and get over with it!
I hate leaving something unfinished, so I did complete this sketch, but honestly, not much time was spent on this one. About 2 hours.I think I need to find better paper...this cartridge paper shows through so much that dark tones are spoiled. I can't achieve the desired smoothness...
Any suggestions?

Finished version

Spent another two hours on this one as I was not satisfied with the first take. Background needed darker finish and face also needed some tweaking...I feel its better now. What's your take?
