This is the first time I have attempted to draw a dark skinned person in pencil. Its sure tough to create dark skin tones and not go overboard! For her hair I have used willow charcoal sticks, which were quite soft and smooth...Cross hatching in the background was later added to emphasis the light falling on her head.Though I must confess I am unsure about the background,Does it look good? What do you think?

I think you've done an excellent job Arti. 16 x 12 is a big area to fill. Highly commendable.

ReplyDeleteArti, the portrait is perfect! Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Arti,
ReplyDeleteYou have the gift, beautiful! I think (or sense) you right about the background. I would just live the tone of the paper.
the sparkle in the eyes, the smile and the beautiful hair..it is classical! with minimal background you have achieved the highlighting of the hair!
ReplyDeleteIt is a perfect portrait.
ReplyDeleteGreat work.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I've seen growth, Arti, because your portraits have always ALWAYS been amazing since I first found your blog. This is no exception. She is just gorgeous!!

ReplyDeleteChe gioia negli occhi ddi questa bambina. Bellissimo. Elvi
ReplyDeletePERFECT!! this is just stunning arti! the skin tones are beautiful set against the dark halo of the hair surrounding her face. and lighter halo at the top of the hair set against the darker background is just wonderful! one of my very favorite of yours! bravo!
ReplyDeleteVery good drawing, Arti.
ReplyDeleteYou are just so talented. I love seeing the joy and the light shine through.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work, Arti! I suggest you soften those cross hatchings in the background on the top, make it little darker to emphasize the light. Softening will add to the depth and the focus will be on the head. Guess, it will look good :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful drawing, Arti!
ReplyDeleteThank you, all of my friends, for encouragement and support.
