Pencil Sketch_A little Girl

This is the first time I have attempted to draw a dark skinned person in pencil. Its sure tough to create dark skin tones and not go overboard! For her hair I have used willow charcoal sticks, which were quite soft and smooth...Cross hatching in the background was later added to emphasis the light falling on her head.Though I must confess I am unsure about the background,Does it look good? What do you think?

  5. Hi Arti,
You have the gift, beautiful! I think (or sense) you right about the background. I would just live the tone of the paper.

  6. the sparkle in the eyes, the smile and the beautiful hair..it is classical! with minimal background you have achieved the highlighting of the hair!

  12. Excellent work, Arti! I suggest you soften those cross hatchings in the background on the top, make it little darker to emphasize the light. Softening will add to the depth and the focus will be on the head. Guess, it will look good :)

  16. I have been looking for an example of dark hair blending into the background for the drawing I am working on. This seems to work. Thanks.
