Blooms

This is a water color portrait of Diya,my niece. Diya is one of my favourits...she was the first child of our family; I remember knitting little sweaters for her when she was a baby! She is still as sweet, at the tender age of 13. The vivid flowers that I have painted match her vivid personality and happy desposition..

Girl with red schoolbag

This morning when I went to drop my son at school-bus stop, this little girl was standing on the other end, with her grandfather. Her bus was late, perhaps, because she was kind of bored...shifting her weight and fidgeting with grandpa's trouser leg! I was so taken in by her innocence that I i decided to paint her later in the day.
I did this painting from memory as I couldn't click her on the spot:)

IPL Fever

IPL --Indian Premier League--is a professional Twenty20 cricket league created and promoted by the BCCI( Indian Cricket board) and backed by the ICC. Although I don't have much interest in cricket, I am writing about it because I am working on a project based on IPL!

So , I believe, IPL is going to start on 18th April in South Africa.I am making a series of portraits of various team captains for a cricket website iplnewsonline. First one is Shane Warne ( Now pls don't ask me which team he captains!) I am posting it here only to share the art....

I painted it in watercolor and then cleaned and added details in photoshop...so its a mix media!............

Lala and his Art

This is Lala with his art.....

An Unsung Painter

Hi all...I was away to visit my parents-in-law yesterday. They live in a village about 100 miles from Delhi. Its always nice to visit the place as it is far from the maddening crowds of Metro city. Lush green fields of sugarcane; wheat crops and mango groves. They even keep a buffalo and use its milk for daily consumption, making curd and ghee ( which is eventually sent to us poor folks! living in city! :)) it keeps them occupied too......
Well, this time I am sharing a sad story with you.
My husband's younger brother, who is fondly called "Lala" ( meaning "the little one" in local dialect) is a fit and fine young man of about 35 years..
He was born with a slight malfuntioning of brain which resulted in him being labeled as a ' less than normal" person...He studied upto fifth standard, but dropped out of school after that, as there was no special schools for people like him then, and no reguler school would accept him.
My father -in-law took early retirement from the army, and settled in his native village with my mother-in-law and his three sons. Two other sons eventually left for big cities to get education and employment.Lala stayed back, and is still there; helping out the parents in their daily chores, and living a life in oblivion.
Sometimes he gets himself hurt, -a sudden fall from stairs-or things like that..and life is pretty dull ,without any real excitment, but he is coping with it!.....
Only silver lining in this story is, that he is gifted... GOD has given him something in return---the talent of being an artist! I have been watching his paintings, and always get him the art material whenever I visit the place. But this time I decided to do something more.I want to share his art with you all.
Tell me if he is a fine painter inspite of everything!
I have got some photos of his paintings done over the years. But I am still undecided about how to put them up.May be I should dedicate a blog to his art!
It will take some time and I will be needing your support , but I am going to do it soon:)

Spring Fever

I did this acrylic on canvas board painting yesterday....Initially I wanted to paint the flower a bright yellow, but I ran out of cadmium yellow!:( thus, the second best, red. As i said before, I have sent it to theartist's challenge for their April Challenge.
What is spring without colors and vibrancy!

An Artist's Block!...

Hi everybody...its been a long time since I posted a fresh work.I guess I had been suffering from "Artist's block"!...First I was busy with a job work that required a different skill altogether...and somehow along the way,I lost all inspiration to paint anything new!
This morning I found a mail in my mailbox, written by
Viki North of http://www.theartistchallenge.com/ edging me to submit my entry for their monthly challenge.I guess this gave me the much needed push and by the afternoon,i was back to my easel!
I have painted a piece for theme "Spring Fever"...
Not posting it as yet as it got dark when I finished it, so I will wait for morning sunlight to take a picture of it.You can see it tomorrow, definitely!
cheers
