Black Sheep in Watercolor

"Not Sheepish..."
10"x 8"
Last afternoon's work...I am still looking for a perfect plan to handle animals with fur- but that hasn't happened yet.Till then it's 'trial and error 'method. Even this piece was brought back from the brink of disaster- just in time!
This black faced sheep looks quite confident, not 'sheepish' at all!
By the way, this painting was done on a new paper that I ordered recently, Hahnemuhle Anniversary Watercolour Block 425 gsm.I have used this brand for the first time- and I must admit it was a great paper to work with.Textured, but did not 'drink' the paint like some others do.I think I am in love with this paper.Just hope they keep producing it.

I am kinda stuck with this purple- need to experiment more. Can anyone suggest a Blue to try?I have cerulean, Ultramarine(green shade),Turquoise,Cobalt deep for now- anything else that I should try? All suggestions welcome.

    1. Sherry you are so kind :) I am short on reference pictures for portraits so I am painting animals- don't need to ask for permission;)

  2. Oh, you ARE experimenting... new paper and new techniques both on the same piece! I admire that! Arti, this looks amazing. I think the new experiment is going to be wonderfully successful!

    1. Experiments are fun!Sometime an entire new style emerges with a new paper! I bought this paper just as an afterthought-' lets try that,too'- kind of thing...and it turned out great.SO far I am not sure which is my favorite paper but this one and Saunders Waterford ( more than 140 lb as I don't like to stretch my paper)suit my style well.Glad you liked the results.

    1. Thanks Hilda.I had also looked at totobobo ,but was not sure if it would be comfortable to wear for long hours. Then I found an alternative which was roughly the same price and promised results as good. (VOGMASK Microfiber Filtering Mask)I bought that instead and I am using it with pastels- so far its doing good enough and its soft and gentle on face.
