'Hayday' Donkey Portrait

9x12
A slight deviation, but we are still in the same company! I love these peace loving, cute animals. This one I saw in a local farm sometime ago.I have painted the background this time...do they look better on white or with a background..whats the vote?

  1. I love this guy! You really have a unique way of giving these animals personality. It's so interesting how the mood varies with the background. The white background makes a more stunning composition and seems more dramatic. Whereas the natural surroundings make a peaceful, all-is-right-with-the-world feeling, which is very pleasing too. Congratulations on a beautiful piece!

  2. I think of these as portraits. Backgrounds are typically blurred or downplayed in most portrait. Love the look though.. You have created personality..

  4. Ciao Arti,
Belle le zebre! E bellissimi i tuoi elefanti!
Mi hanno entusiasmato anche il volto di donna e intenerito il ricordo di Lala!

    1. Its a difficult decision to make, really.I think next time I will try a background with no detail; just intermingling color. Thanks for taking time to comment.

    1. Thank you Hilda. I am thinking of finding a happy cross between a full colored background and totally white space...I hope it works!

  7. I like the way the background gold is the complementary color to his purple fur. Plus, the detail in the grasses seem to reverberate with the texture of his fur. Still, stark white makes the animals pop!
