Young Turk

8x10
Felt like playing with color today....this Young Turk did not even have a drawing underneath, I just started with a brush loaded with color and loads of water.
Recently got myself a new pink (W &N Opera Rose) this painting was a test to see its relationship with other colors. Its bright alright but no great chemistry with others.
Actually I have been trying to replace my old tube of  Fragonard Rose Tyrien which is running out fast!I had bought it in India a few years ago and I haven't see a color this beautiful since.....it pushes away every other color it touches and creates beautiful blooms.( Its not in the painting  above but you remember the cute bunnies and roosters I posted a few days ago..get the picture?!)
Problem is, I can't find it even online ..and haven't found any counterpart either --a pink that would merge with other colors as beautifully....any help would be much appreciated.

The Elephant

The Emperor
12x9
Elephants...I haven't been painting them for a while and it certainly felt good! This portrait is a combo of loose and crisp, I hope it has come out decent.
Painted with just Raw Sienna and French Ultramarine Blue (with a hint of red,) this fellow is simple yet royal.

TheWhite Rabbit

9x12
Another one of those cuties.I have been trying to keep them looking soft in spite of some brushwork on the fur.A little green in the background had made him different than his peers!

Back to Roosters

Speckled
9x12
I am back to roosters with this suave guy. To me he looks like someone dressed up for the occasion  :) For the sake of experiment, I went all loose on his top but kept this feathers quite crisp.Works, doesn't it?

Portrait Painting

I have been having a good time with painting fuzzy animals in loose watercolor but now its time to see if this will work for humans too. A study in similar style, first step in that direction. I might change a few things in future works, but its a start alright.
Have a great weekend, you all!

Day of the Rabbits

Some serious cuteness coming your way! These two were painted very wet-in-wet; and I loved the experience.

Girl in Blue Coat

16" x 12"
A watercolor portrait in bigger size, that's something I am happy about this morning.
I have been painting small for weeks..it felt good to use a bigger brush! The subject was nice, too.A girl I saw on a London trip. The picture was taken from a distance and I had to blow it up.Not very detailed, but as I did not intend to copy faithfully, it was fine.I just took the basic face structure and build my painting around it.Painted fast and loose, not going in too many details. This paper does not let me fiddle too much and  I have to get everything right in one go.Just some touches of shadows on the face ,jacket and hair were applied in second layer but I was really worried about it getting muddied so I left it there.
Let me know what do you think of this , and have a great weekend!

Look Over

10x7
Painted this Giraffe on Arches hot pressed paper.Initially I did not like this paper much-it felt too smooth- but learning now to use it the right way!It works wonderfully with wet in wet, too. Not easy to handle, though.

Cooped

7x10
Last one ( probably!) in the rooster series.I have added some background detail in this one to see if it alters it in anyway.Does it? I do have some more pictures of chicken peeking out of wire mesh enclosures that I had taken on a farm May be I would try some more!

Rise and Shine!

7x10
White rooster set against an umber-blue background.I am quite happy with the granulation, Langton paper is best for this kind of effect.

The Toucan

12x9
New bird in town! This Toucan has been waiting for his turn for quite some time.I had him in my stock pictures since long, when I had visited a bird sanctuary nearby. He had posed very happily and I have a few more to paint, alongside a colorful Macaw and a proud Peacock...
