Some more chickens... still struggling to decide how much detail I need! The top one was painted with a loose hand, wet-in-wet and with salt texture.The chicken at the bottom was a Maran that have a distinctive speckled plumage. I took a different approach with this one and painted with a very fine brush.The result was alright and it was also Sold instantly; but I must say that fine detail is not what I enjoy. Loose and wet is what I prefer.

Pheasant

This was the first one I painted after a long gap due to a bad case of flu.

Someone actually asked me to paint a pheasant after viewing a previous Pheasant painting-which was sold out. They had a pheasant visiting their backyard whom they had named 'Patrick'! Intrigued by the story, I painted this one on the night of 15th.Next day I put it up for sale on Art Finder and sent a message to the person that another 'Patrick' was available. Unfortunately for them the new 'Patrick' was quickly lapped up again by another buyer even before that mail was read! 

Lesson - Pheasants do fly quickly :D

Two owls in different styles and mediums ..first is my usual watercolor with a white background while the second one is on a dark colored Pastelmat .I had been experimenting more lately. just trying to find out what works best for me.

I am really into birds these days..especially roosters and hens.Working with some more salt texture in this one.Tails are much more fun, just load a large brush with dripping wet color and sweep across the paper!

I am painting faster than I am posting!This was painted last night , I used a new paper- Fabriano - and I instantly liked it.The paper is costly so I have been resisting buying it for quite some time but now I am happy that I went ahead and bought it.Very good texture,good for fine work, not sure for washes-yet.This ostrich was a good practice for this paper.

Scarlet Macaw

I rarely use pure red or scarlet in my paintings.In fact I am yet to find my favorite red! This Scarlet Macaw was an exercise to bring out the very best of this color as well as for me to understand the color better.Hope you all have a great weekend, its 10 pm Friday and I am planning to paint another one now :)

I am back to roosters with this suave guy. To me he looks like someone dressed up for the occasion  :) For the sake of experiment, I went all loose on his top but kept this feathers quite crisp.Works, doesn't it?

A proud looking swan, I like these birds -they are so beautiful! I have loads of reference pictures as my husband loves to take their close ups...this is from one of his pictures.After three days of not painting, I felt compelled to paint something last evening.Another portrait is on my drawing board but that will take time- this is like a chocolate bar in between meals, quick burst of energy!
Also visited the library this morning and found some pastel painting books.Still unsure how to go about using my new  'mi-tientes 'pastel paper, I won't know until I decide about what am I going to paint.Soon,soon....

I felt like painting some cute little animals today...this is the first one, I will post another animal painting tomorrow.May be some squirrels will follow...For some reason, they look best in impressionistic watercolors!

Goldfinch

I painted this Goldfinch , inspired by photographs by my blogger friend, Fred Walsh. This is the first time I painted a bird! They also have character, you know.... It might take some more attempts to get those birds right.( The flowers were much more work!) But they are beautiful; aren't they?

It is a male Mandarian Duck. They originate from asia ( China, Russia nad Japan),are frequently featured in Oriental art and are regarded as a symbol of conjugal affection and fidelity. A Chinese proverb for loving couples uses the Mandarin Duck as a metaphor: "Two mandarin ducks playing in water".

It was a bright day yesterday --so I decided to venture out with my son. I had a motive, too! The art store near the Trafalgar.! So Trafaga Square it was, with a stroll in nearby James Park . It took me a bit long to locate the store.One wrong turn and we got lost in China Town! Thankfully we came around to find the store after an hour but my son got so bored in the process that he wouldn't let me 'enjoy' the experience! So I had to be fast here and still he complained that I was taking so long! I got some nice watercolors and papers from there and hopefully I am going to put them in good use soon!
And not to forget the National Art Gallery...I took a peek there too --a grand affair. I think it will take a whole day to cover all of it ..
